Dealing with Difficult Patients:
Registrants will gain skills for calming and gaining the trust of those patients who are difficult because of frustration or fear issues. In addition, EMS personnel will learn how to think critically in dealing with blatantly manipulative patients and those patients whose trying behaviors will need to be managed by professional judgment calls. Responders will learn the art of good communication, staying objective, and protecting one’s own emotions when trying circumstances arise with difficult patients.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop skills for building a fast and workable relationship with a difficult patient
- Understand the process for defining and confronting a patient whose intent is to abuse the system versus obtaining true medical help
- Establish boundaries for protecting oneself emotionally in out-of-control situations that evoke the temptation to second-guess oneself
- Ascertain the importance of utilizing encounters with difficult patients as a learning experience for professional growth
How to obtain CE:
Registrants can obtain 1.5 CECBEMS Approved CE by purchasing and completing an online post test on Jemsprepare for $20. Once the lecture has completed you may return and purchase the CE test at your convenience. Click here to access our course catalog.
